Understanding Suitability

The OutbounderARS neurorehabilitation platform represents a major advancement in the treatment of acquired brain injuries, offering a powerful new pathway to recovery. While it is capable of helping a wide range of patients, there are some important considerations to determine whether it's the right fit for you or your loved one. We've grouped these into three key areas:

An infographic depicting OutbounderARS's target conditions, candidate profile, and treatment focus
OutbounderARS was specifically designed to treat individuals recovering from stroke and traumatic brain injury (TBI)-conditions where we have documented meaningful improvements in mobility, coordination, and function. In addition, the platform has shown early promise in supporting recovery for patients with Parkinson's disease, although clinical use in that population is still emerging.

The Outbounder platform is best suited for patients who have some degree of voluntary movement, especially in the lower limbs. At a minimum, one leg should be strong enough to lift independently. Patients with complete lower-limb paralysis are currently not candidates for this treatment.

While the technology continues to evolve, we focus on individuals who are capable of active participation in their recovery process, as the platform delivers highly interactive, physically demanding sessions.

Despite its adaptability, the Outbounder platform does have physical limits that ensure both effectiveness and safety. These include:

Height range: Generally accommodates patients between 5'0'' and 6'6'', depending on leg length and limb proportions.

Weight limit: Patients must weigh 265 pounds or less. This limit is strictly enforced to ensure the mechanical and performance integrity of the platform.

If you're unsure whether you meet these requirements, we confirm suitability as part of the initial free evaluation before scheduling any sessions.

As part of the treatment journey, OutbounderARS sessions gradually increase in intensity and can become strenuous over time. This is intentional - it helps retrain both the brain and body - but it also means that patients must be cleared for cardiovascular exertion.

A physician's approval is required before beginning treatment, confirming that the patient can safely engage in sustained physical activity and elevated cardio output. If you're currently undergoing heart-related treatment or have known cardiovascular conditions, speak with your doctor before pursuing OutbounderARS.

If you have questions about your personal suitability, we encourage you to contact our staff for a consultation. We're here to help you determine whether OutbounderARS is the right step forward in your recovery journey.

Your First Session:
Free Evaluation and Test Ride

Your journey begins with a free, no-obligation evaluation session. During this visit, our professional staff will:
  • Assess your current condition to determine if OutbounderARS is the right fit
  • Document your baseline mobility for future comparison
  • Guide you through a test ride to experience the platform firsthand

If the platform is a good match, our team will take the time to perform a personalized fitting, capturing the optimal configuration for your body and impairment profile. These customized settings ensure that every future session is tailored to your unique needs and abilities.

A Typical Session:
Immersive, Personalized, Self-Directed

Each standard session lasts one hour and begins with robotic assistance to help you comfortably and safely enter the OutbounderARS platform.

From there, the experience becomes entirely your own:
  • You control the pace, direction, and difficulty of your session
  • You explore dynamic virtual environments and trails
  • You choose when you're ready to take on new challenges

The platform is highly gamified, turning therapy into a motivating, interactive experience. Our trained Neurorehab Care Technician is always nearby-advising, monitoring, and ensuring safety-while giving you the freedom to push yourself on your own terms.

This engaging format naturally encourages progress, as patients consistently strive to unlock new achievements and reach virtual milestones.

Tracking and Measuring Progress

Your progress is continuously tracked through both platform-generated data and scheduled evaluations with our physical therapy team.

Every 10 sessions, depending on your attendance frequency, you'll receive a progress evaluation. We compare your current abilities to your original PT assessment and the ongoing performance data collected by the platform. After your regular session, you'll meet privately with our PT to review your results, discuss your improvements, and adjust your program as needed.

These regular check-ins ensure that your treatment remains aligned with your goals-and that you're always moving forward.

With OutbounderARS, therapy is no longer something you have to endure-it's something you'll look forward to. Your recovery, reimagined.

Is Outbounder Right For You?

If you're a stroke or TBI survivor who's been told you've plateaued-or that "this is as good as it's going to get"-you're not alone. Many of our patients came to us after traditional therapy had reached its limits, frustrated by slow progress or the sense that their recovery had stalled.

OutbounderARS was built for you.

This groundbreaking platform delivers a completely different approach to neurorehabilitation-one that is immersive, engaging, and powerfully effective. It taps into your brain's innate ability to rewire itself through high-repetition, task-specific movement, combined with rich sensory stimulation and self-directed challenge. And it works best after conventional therapy has stopped moving the needle.
  • It's Different. Not passive. Not routine. Every session is active, gamified, and built around your own decisions and progress.
  • Not one-size-fits-all - The experience is tailored to your abilities, your goals, and your pace of recovery.
  • Not traditional therapy. It's not about doing a few movements under a timer. It's about navigating complex environments and rebuilding functional control-one challenge at a time.
Most importantly, it's not just maintenance-it's progress.

Why It's Worth It

We understand that the cost of treatment is an investment. But for many patients, the returns are nothing short of life-changing:
  • Regaining control of a limb once thought lost
  • Relearning movements that restore confidence and independence
  • Reconnecting the brain and body in ways that re-open possibility
Whether your goal is to walk more confidently, reduce spasticity, improve balance, or simply feel more like yourself again, OutbounderARS offers a new path forward-when other options have run out.

You don't have to settle for a plateau. Let us help you move beyond it.

Your first session is free. Come experience what's possible.
